Pastor---Fr. Don Lewandowski, O.S.A.
Fr. Don was born at Jackson Park Hospital in Chicago, IL on September 25, 1943. He was raised on the south east side of the city by his parents Tony and Delores. Tony worked first in the Steel Mills for 11 years and became a truck driver for the next 28 years. His mother, Delores, was a Crossing Guard for Chicago schools for 27 years. Fr. Don has a dear younger sister, Arlene, now widowed and living in North Judson, Indiana. Fr. Don attended Immaculate Conception Grammar School, and Mendel Catholic High School, both in Chicago. He then attended the Augustinian Novitiate in Wisconsin for one year, and then attended Tolentine College in Olympia Fields, IL, graduating in 1966 with a B.A. in Philosophy. He then studied Theology for one year in Mexico, another year at Tolentine, and two years at the Chicago Theological Union. He completed graduate studies with a M.A. in Theology from St. Xavier College, 1973 & another M.A. in Educational Administration & Supervision from Chicago State University in 1986. He professed his vows as an Augustinian on September 4, 1962, and was ordained a priest December 20, 1969, by Bishop Alfred Abramowicz at Tolentine College in Olympia Fields, Illinois.
Associate Pastor---Fr. Bill Sullivan, O.S.A.
Fr. Bill was born and raised on the south side of Chicago. His father was a purchasing agent for Western Electric for 29 years and his mother was a teacher at St. Cajetan School, Chicago, for twenty-three years. He has a younger brother and a sister who still live in the suburbs of Chicago. Fr. Bill attended St. Dorothy School, Mendel Catholic High School in Chicago, one year at St. Joseph College in Rensselaer, IN, before joining the Augustinian Novitiate in Wisconsin. In 1961, he professed his vows as an Augustinian. He continued his studies at Tolentine College (an extension of Villanova University) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy in 1964. He professed his solemn vows as an Augustinian that September 4, 1964. He studied theology at Tolentine College for 4 years and did graduate work at DePaul University in American History. On September 23, 1967, Fr. Bill was ordained a priest in the Augustinian order by Bishop John C. McNabb, O.S.A., at Tolentine College in Olympia Fields, Illinois.
Associate Pastor---Fr. Don Bates, O.S.A.
Fr. Don was born to Bernard “Bud” & Mary (Ursula) Bates at Marietta, Ohio in 1934. He had an older brother, Bob, who was deceased in 1995 at 62, and has a dear younger sister, Shirley “Sue”, who was married to a beloved brother-in-law, Judge Thomas Gadola, who died in 2003. His family moved to Flint, Michigan in 1940, where he attended the Augustinian Brother’s School of St. Matthew. He joined the minor seminary school of St. Monica in 1948 in Wisconsin and then on to the Augustinian Seminary in Saugatuck, Michigan. His studies continued at Villanova University in Philosophy from 1953–1957. He professed solemn vows with the Augustinians in 1957 and continued his studies in Theology at the Augustinian College in Washington D.C. with concurrent studies, earning a Masters of Fine Arts at the Catholic University of America, awarded in 1963. Fr. Bates was ordained June 8, 1960 by Bishop Leo Purley of Fort Wayne, Indiana in the Sacred Heart Basilica, in the shadow of the Golden Dome of Notre Dame University.
